Music Venues on Colfax

Denver has more live music venues than Los Angeles, and some of the best can be found on East Colfax. The Fillmore Auditorium, the Ogden, and the Bluebird Theater offer intimate settings with great acoustics and have seen some of the most well-known musicians of the last century grace their stages, from Bob Dylan to Cake. The blocks surrounding the theaters are packed with bars and clubs that excel at late-night fun. Locals have dubbed the street “Coolfax” for its hip bars and great live music scene.

The Ogden Theatre was built in 1919 by the same designer of the Bluebird Theater. The Ogden Theatre originally hosted live performances such as weekly organ recitals, dances, lectures and vaudeville acts - most notably, the legendary Harry Houdini. By 1937 it had been converted to a movie theater that featured everything from the classics to the avant garde. In the '80's it also featured the cult movie classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The Ogden Theatre was re-opened in 1993 featuring a wide variety of live performances. The theatre found its niche and has become Denver's premier concert venue featuring approximately 150 concerts per year. The Ogden Theatre is an official Denver landmark and a national historic landmark.

The Ogden Theatre is operated by AEG Live. AEG Live, the live-entertainment division of Los Angeles-based AEG, is dedicated to all aspects of live contemporary music performance, touring for a variety of programming, and multi-media production. AEG Live, the nation's second-largest concert promotion and touring company, is comprised of special event, broadcast and exhibition divisions, fourteen regional offices, and numerous state-of-the-art venues nationwide. AEG Live has an international reach with regional and local presence in San Diego, New York, Las Vegas, London, Nashville, Houston, Dallas, St. Louis, Atlanta, Denver, San Francisco, Florida, and Los Angeles.

The Fillmore Auditorium Built in 1907 as the Mammoth Roller Rink, the Fillmore Auditorium has a long and storied history as an entertainment venue. As Mammoth Gardens and Mammoth Events Center, the building hosted sporting events, parties and shows for more than six decades. After a multimillion-dollar renovation in 1999, the venue reopened as the Fillmore -- with decor reminiscent of Bill Graham's famous Fillmore in San Francisco -- and has hosted countless renowned musical acts, including Bob Dylan, David Bowie and Coldplay.
